10+ Easy Bag Patterns to Sew

A variety of free easy bag patterns to sew for purses, crossbody bags, sling bags, totes, and more. If you love to sew bags, I hope you’re inspired to make one of your own.

I’m always looking for new things to sew and a new bag is one of my go to sewing projects. These easy bag patterns to sew all include step-by-step instructions with pictures and free templates if needed. I love sewing bags and I’ve compiled a list of all my favorites to sew. These easy bag patterns are perfect for beginners and all skill levels.

If the sewing projects do not include pockets, you can use these instructions for adding a zipper pocket or these instructions for adding slip pockets to the bags of your choice!

You can change up the straps by following these instructions on how to make leather or vinyl purse straps.

Here is a list of some of the sewing essentials I use to make bags and where to find them:

I used cotton fabric for the majority of the bags – my favorite fabric shop
Cutting mat, rotary cutter, and clear ruler – you can find them as a set of all three
Fusible interfacing – I prefer Pellon 911FF Lightweight Fusible Interfacing
Rings and slides for crossbody bags
Magnetic snaps
D-rings and swivel snap hooks
Zippers – my go to shop for zippers
