How to Make a T-Shirt Scarf
The t-shirt scarf is a super easy no sew project and only takes about 10 minutes to make.
Use up some of those old shirts and turn them into t-shirt scarf necklaces. I have a ton of t-shirt scraps leftover from my memory t-shirt quilts. Instead of throwing them away, I make these infinity scarves. Be sure to check out my tutorial on How to Make a Memory T-shirt Quilt if you are looking for some more ideas for your t-shirts, especially if you have a ton of them.
Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to make an infinity t-shirt scarf necklace.

Supplies needed:
- T-shirt bottoms or scraps
- Cutting mat (optional)
- Sewing scissors or rotary cutter
- Clear ruler (optional)
The nice thing about making a t-shirt scarf is it is completely up to you how you want it to look. The shirts do not need to be the same size. I’m using red and gray together for this project but you can use the same color. If you are just using one shirt, you can use it from the arm sleeves down. I am using my t-shirt scraps so that is why I’m using two t-shirt pieces.
Cut off the hems on the bottom of the shirts. We won’t be using these for this project.
Cut the t-shirt strips
Using your sewing scissors, cut as many strips as you can about 1/2 inch wide. You’ll want to use a sharp pair of scissors, preferably a good pair of sewing scissors. Otherwise your hand will be killing you by the end!
As an option, you can use your clear ruler, cutting mat and rotary cutter to cut the t-shirt strips but it is not necessary.
I think I cut about 16 strips total from the two t-shirt pieces. I would say 15-20 strips is a good amount for the scarf.
Set aside one of the strips. You will be using it to tie them all together.
Take the strips and stretch as far as you can. It will not hurt it or break it.
Gather all the t-shirt strips together one by one so they don’t get twisted.
Tie the t-shirt scarf together
Take the t-shirt strip you set aside and wrap it around the scarf as shown above. Leave out a couple inches on each end for tying the knot.
Tie the two ends together in a knot and tuck them in. Or cut them off – your preference. I like to tuck them in.
You are finished!
Now it’s time to wear your infinity scarf necklace! I kind of like how the red t-shirt strips are smaller than the gray strips. What do you think? I hope you enjoyed this t-shirt scarf tutorial! Feel free to comment below and share your t-shirt scarf project.
